“Definitely be Back”
I have just returned this weekend from my third visit to The Palace Hotel in recent years and the value for a half board stay is incredible given the facilities available. The facilities on site are excellent, indoor tennis courts, outdoor tennis courts, snooker room with two full sized tables, 9 hole golf course, indoor swimming pool and functional mini gym, all on site and all in very good condition. There is also an outdoor swimming pool on the Terrace overlooking the gardens and gold course but it was covered for our weekend, hardly surprising in March. The hotel itself is very art deco 1920'S in style and must have been an absolute joy in its pomp, it is, as others have suggested, a bit tired in places but I would very much disagree that it is in any way shabby. I believe there is currently a refurbishment programme underway in stages throughout the hotel, but the main guest areas are faultless in cleanliness, presentation, atmosphere and, particularly, character. The breakfast options are impressive with pastries, fresh fruit, yoghurts and a massive range of cereals through to the obligatory full English and also a range of breakfast specials to order. Couldn't fault it. I will definitely be back. (March 2015)
Visited with husband last week for Sunday lunch....what a wonderful surprise. Good old fashioned service, fabulous food, and plenty of it, warm, welcoming and a super jazz band too. What more could one ask, except a glass of Champagne or Prosecco. That said, managed a rather delicious red. Coffee and mints later. I really did not want to leave my 'titanic ' experience! I say this as I felt like I was back in the 40's. Super all round, thank you all so much and will be returning with friends next Sunday. (Feb 2015)
“Retains its old charm”
This hotel retains some of the charm and grandeur of the heyday of Torquay. Plenty of space, our room was huge though it was a little dated. The staff were wonderful . We found the restaurant to be good too. We enjoyed a four course set menu in a huge formal dining room (this as part of our package) and had no complaints whatsoever. A lovely goats cheese starter, beef consommé, a venison main and a lovely lemon based desert. The service was excellent with well trained staff. (Feb 2015)
The Palace is one of the Victorian hotels that hasn't let itself go. The staff are friendly and attentive, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, the grounds are delightful (do ask for a garden view), the facilities expansive (for this area), and the food worthy of a fine chef. I would happily eat here again. (Feb 2015)
“Unbeatable Style and Service”
The facilities and service at this hotel really can't be beaten. Swimming pool and table tennis very popular with my children. We were well looked after at dinner and breakfast, with plenty of choice for children and high quality for me. The grounds are beautiful and our walks to the beach filled with squirrels and secret paths. Useful to have free WIFI in the lounges. Please don't be put off by the outdated decor in the bedrooms as it was all comfortable and clean. In fact it was a bit like time travel to the early 80s! Thank you for making us most welcome and we will be back in the summer to enjoy the outdoor pool. Ask for a garden view. Wherever you are it will be a peaceful night’s sleep. (Feb 2015)
